Running on PB&J
22 Apr
Yesterday was a pretty good running day. I did 6 miles on the canal outside of the office from about 6 to 7 pm. Its such a nice time of year to be running outdoors. Its been staying light outside until almost 7:30pm and so far, it’s not too hot. My legs been really stiff and sore the last few times I’ve run and I can only guess its because I’ve had to drop my milage in the last month because I’ve been kinda sick (headaches from allergies I think). I’m finally feeling better but its going to take a few more runs to get back to not feeling totally wasted at the end of 6 miler.
This week I’m testing out peanut and butter & jelly sandwiches on whole wheat bread and baked Lays chips for lunch, to see how well they fuel my after work run. I had been eating 300 calorie Lean Cuisine meals for lunch, but lately I can’t seem to make it to 2:30 in the afternoon without wanting a snack after one of those things. Yesterday I had a pb&j, and a handful of baked lays right at noon and I felt ready for my apple about 3 pm. Then at about 4:45 I had another handful of the baked Lays. I took off on my 6 mile run about 5:45pm and I am happy to report that I wasn’t hungry the entire run. Thats good, because for awhile now, I’ve been frustrated with becoming very hungry halfway into my run, despite having a decent afternoon snack.
So far, so good with the pb&j. I won’t get to test it again until Thursday because tonight I have a Team in Training mentor meeting at 6 pm, followed by my weekly volleyball game at 8:30. I’ve been playing on this women’s parks and rec team for the last few weeks with some old teammates from high school. It has been soooo much fun to get back into playing volleyball. Its been over 8 years since I played varsity in high school. Tomorrow night, Joe and I are going to a formal dinner for my work, so I won’t be able to run then either. Good thing marathon training hasn’t officially begun yet! More to come!
